Crafters and stitchers do their thing in support of the Poppy Appeal

There's not doubting that crafty folks are a generous bunch. In fact, when there's an opportunity to get stitching for charity, we're always overwhelmed at the wonderful response.

In CrossStitcher issue 246, we featured this beautiful Poppy bag and matching corsage by Lesley Teare. She kindly designed the charts copyright free so that readers could stitch and sell their handiwork for the Poppy Appeal and raise funds for The British Legion. Did you stitch yours?

Helen Philipps designs stress-buster doggie bags for charity

Doggie bagsAttention pet lovers! The Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is calling on keen crafters to make scented doggie bags to help keep some of its 500 dogs calm in kennels while they wait for new homes.

Cross stitch designer and sewing queen Helen Philipps has designed these scented canine pouches as part of their new Kennel Enrichments plan which aims to help reduce stress levels in the kennel environment by bringing a variety of tastes, smells and sounds their day.

The scented bags feature a Staffordshire Bull Terrier motif as part of the home's campaign to show the softer side of the breed.

Designer Helen Philipps says: "These scented bags are so cute and easy to make, so even if you've never tried sewing before, this is a great project to start on!"
