Mother's Day

It may seem like a long way but Mother's Day is quite early in 2008, on 2nd March and we want your help in celebrating the event.

We want to know about your experiences of Mother's Day – do you always stitch something for your mum to celebrate or are you a mum who has received a special stitched present from their child? Do you have any favourite stitching memories of Mother's Day? What does it mean to you to be a stitching mum – is it just a great way to relax or a way of life?

If so, we'd love to hear from you. You don't even have to write a long letter – just let us know what you think. Click here to send us an email!

Thanks to everyone who has answered our call for round robin stitchers!

There are still some spaces available, so if you’re a keen stitcher from the UK and would like to get involved in our 200th issue celebrations there’s still time to let us know! Just email us at crossstitcher@futurenet.co.uk with your name, address and telephone number, and we’ll be in touch as soon as details are available.

We’re hoping to send the round robin to all corners of the UK, so drop us an email for a chance to put your location on the map!

Twisted thread?

Does your thread tend to twist while you stitch so you end up with small knots as you stitch?

There's are two easy solutions. You can allow your needle to dangle free underneath your work every few stitches so it unwinds itself. Alternatively, you could totate the needle as you stitch – each time you take the needle out of the fabric just give the needle a half turn.

Simple!

Cross stitch takes over

A few of the CrossStitcher team went up to the Country Living Christmas Fair in London a couple of weeks ago to get some ideas for next year's projects and how to display them.

It's always nice to see what's in the shops are there were some beautiful things on display (I especially loved Jan Constantine's beautiful handstitched items). The smells were gorgeous, with cinammon and nutmeg everywhere and traditional wood decorations around every corner. It really got me in a Christmassy mood. Sometimes, for us stitchers, we have to start working on our projects so early that by the time Christmas comes we've had too much of it! What do you think?

What I was pleased to see was the amount of cross stitch there, though. It seems that a Christmas table cloth or decoration just isn't complete this year unless it's got one or two stitches on it. Most of the designs used just one colour, which gives a really striking effect.

Would you like to take part in an exciting CrossStitcher ‘round robin’?

If you’re a keen stitcher and would like to help make history with your handiwork and get featured in a future edition of CrossStitcher, then this is your chance!

We’re looking for volunteer stitchers all over the UK to help us celebrate CrossStitcher’s 200th issue with a special project. If you’re interested in taking part just drop us an email at crossstitcher@futurenet.co.uk with your name, address and telephone number. As soon as details are available we’ll be in touch with instructions on how you can get involved in this fantastic project. Hurry before the available spaces are filled!

Hope to hear from you soon.
