Get your hands on free Twitter patterns

Who wants a free pattern? Those of you on Twitter should look at following Jacinta Lodge, aka @stitchalicious. As well as being an amazing textile and embroidery artist, she is also generous enough to tweet free patterns to her followers every Tuesday.

“I’m based in Germany so I’m in a weird time zone for most tweeting stitchers, who need to be US-based, and I miss out on a lot of the interactive stitchy fun,” she tells us. “This is my way of trying to redress that. Plus, I wanted to see if there was something more that could be done with stitching and Twitter than just telling people ‘working on XYZ right now!’”

Stitch-up your own flaming torch!

Olmpic torch cross stitch patternWith the Olympic torch gradually making its way around the UK as part of its grand tour, we couldn't resist paying homage to the Athens flame with our very own flaming torch.

This design comes as part of a sporty themed project in our latest issue, with everything from gold medals and winner rosettes to football boots and spoting buttons to choose from.

You'll find lots more quick-to-stitch sporty designs in issue 254, on sale until 10th July.

Have you seen the torch relay in your home town?

When the torch relay came through the city of Bath (where our offices are based), the team at CrossStitcher HQ went out to support the runners by cheering them down Great Pulteney Street. Even a friendly chap selling the Big Issue got in on the action by crafting his own torch out of a magazine - now that's the spirit!

We're head over heels in love with Gail Bussi's pretty bluebird hanging sampler from our latest issue, and especially with its motto, "Moments of Joy to Treasure."

The plump little bluebirds sit among three beautifully decorated panels, surrounded by butterflies, flowers, heart motifs and delicate little seed beads. It's such a joy to behold.
